Surf camp world map: Discover the coolest surf camps in Europe

"I DID IT MY WAVE!"

On the hunt for the coolest surf camps in Europe

Learning to surf had been on my bucket list for a long time, but unfortunately, I was the only one in my friend circle interested in it. Then, after watching the film "Chicks On Boards" (definitely a must-watch!), I was determined to give it a try myself. So, I thought, why not spend a week at a surf camp? If I didn't enjoy it, I could always relax on the beach, sip cocktails, and watch the pros surf...

Honestly, I had no idea where to go. France, Morocco, Spain? In the end, I chose Portugal and spent a fantastic week at the Chill In Surfcamp in Ericeira. I loved it so much that I kept going back and even ended up working at some surf camps (which didn't feel like work at all).

During my travels through Portugal, I took always notes whenever someone told me about a great surf camp in Europe... And that's how the idea for my mission was born:

"I will discover the coolest surf camps in Europe and publish them in a book so that all surf beginners and advanced surfers know where to find the surf camps that suit them best!"

Doesn't every surf camp suit everyone? Just as people are different, so are surf camps—well, at least their owners who give them their very special charm through unique concepts.

Similarly diverse are the guests: Not everyone wants to party every day or do yoga. A pure surfing vacation may quickly bore some, and they might want to try pole dancing, climbing, or horseback riding in their free time. From tents to dorm rooms (remember your earplugs!) to luxurious single suites, there are various accommodation options for tired surfers.

But one thing is certain, you can quickly find friends in any surf camp if you're open to it (you can still enjoy moment alone).

That's how the idea for my book "I did it my wave! The most beautiful surf camps and beaches in Europe" started. I traveled along Europe's coasts, whether by foot, bicycle, van, train, or hitchhiking, to find the coolest surf camps for you!

In this book, you'll find a selection of my favorite camps, accompanied by detailed descriptions, special activities in the area, and interviews with the surf camp owners. After all, it's the team and the people on-site that make your surf camp week an unforgettable experience! With my surf camp reports, you'll quickly find the perfect camp for you – away from surf camp chains – led by passionate surfers. What should you pack for your surf camp trip? Are you unsure which wetsuit to pack for your next surf vacation or whether you should rent it directly at the beach? Don't worry, my book includes a wetsuit guide for every region I visited. In the monthly tables, you can read the water temperatures, and I recommend the appropriate wetsuit thickness.

After finishing the last page of my book, I couldn't imagine putting surfing aside. I told myself : "I do it my wave" and moved to Lisbon, Portugal. Let me know when you're in town, and we can go surfing together!

PS: Especially outside of Europe, I continue to search for the coolest and craziest surf camps. Did you enjoy a particular surf camp? You are welcome to tell me more about it!

Surf camps in Europe - my favorites

For French surfers

Do you have friends from France who would like to try out surfing? Do you want to test your french skills? How about a gift for someone you met at a surf camp in France?

The French edition of “I did it my wave” has been published 2022 by Glenat under the name “Lex plus beaux surf camps d’Europe”.

Would you like to start your next adventure without any worries?

Who doesn't know those pesky concerns that can spoil the excitement of embarking on a surf trip or vacation? What if I get injured, twist my ankle, or don't tolerate the food?

When I'm abroad for an extended period, I book the Digital Nomad Insurance from SafetyWing. This allows me to dive into adventures with peace of mind, without worrying about if my regular health insurance covers me abroad.

Los geht’s! Jetzt gibt es keine Ausrede mehr 😉
